JMG SECURITY SYSTEMS, INC., the premier fire and security systems company in Southern California, has an exciting opportunity for a Tech/Desktop Support Technician in the Orange County area.  JMG installs and services fire, burglar, CCTV, and card access systems in medium to large, commercial, industrial and retail businesses, as well as selected residential clients.

Position Summary

The Desktop Support Technician is an entry-level position with JMG SECURITY SYSTEMS, INC. which is responsible for providing day-to-day professional desktop support to JMG personnel, contractors and customers. Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Perform routine hardware and software testing, configuration and installation. Develop and deliver desktop related-training. Perform routine maintenance related to all hardware and software utilized by JMG.

Role and Responsibilities

  • PC Support:
  • Provide PC support services including building new, upgrading and repairing PC’s.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, install and configure Windows operating systems and various application programs.
  • Services to be performed at client sites, over the phone and at corporate office.
  • Network Support
  • Provide network consulting services for small to medium sized businesses including, installing Windows-based servers.
  • Configure security, print servers and file and print services.
  • Install network cards
  • Configure Windows clients
  • Setup Internet and remote access services
  • Configure Email Clients on Desktops
  • In-House Projects:
  • PC and network maintenance for office.
  • Hardware and software upgrades and repairs
  • O/S configuration changes
  • Periodic virus scan updates
  • Other specific projects to enhance JMG’s capabilities and image.
  • Assist users with PC, network and software-related issues.
  • Package, test, deploy and update software.
  • Create and maintain desktop images.
  • Perform routine network and PC installation, troubleshoot, maintain and resolve any related problems.
  • Identify user training needs, develop and deliver technical training.
  • Assist with camera or access system configurations for customer site projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of demonstration systems for potential clients.


  • Ideally two years of related experience
  • Must have a current California Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to obtain an Alarm Company Employee registration card.

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Skills 

  • Thorough knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems up to Windows 10, PC hardware and configuration including related peripherals.
  • Thorough knowledge of Office Suite and PC Troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of mobile devices including iPads, iPhones, Android.
  • Strong customer service and problem solving skills including the ability to provide diligent, prompt, and courteous responses to users’ questions or PC issues.
  • Basic knowledge of structured cabling is required.
  • Ability to multi-task, evaluate issues and problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server Platform, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Virtualization such as VmWare or HyperV, preferred.
  • Knowledge of IP camera systems, NVR’s, DVR’s, and Access Control is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly/frequently required to use hands to finger dexterity; handle or feel objects, equipment or controls and talk or hear.
  • The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • The individual must be able to drive, sit, walk, stand, bend, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and balance.
  • Specific vision and abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to moderate.
